Nature’s own anticoagulant
Another invaluable byproduct is mucosa, which is derived from the mucosal tissue of hog casings. From mucosa, we manufacture crude heparin (in the EU and US), the source material for pharmaceutical heparin, an injectable anticoagulant.
Heparin is used to treat and prevent blood clots caused by certain medical conditions. It is also used before surgery and in connection with dialysis to reduce the risk of blood clots, helping to save lives every day.
